Latest Updates from Our Project:

We did it!
about 3 years ago – Mon, Mar 01, 2021 at 04:58:47 PM

Funded through all stretch goals! This is so much more success than we had remotely considered possible.

Thank you all so much! And thank you in particular generous person who bumped us over $4k at the last second, you know who you are. We are very excited for the soundtrack, and will be sharing details of that as soon as we can!

Now comes the fun part! We'll be getting to work on finishing the module, and we'll keep all of you updated as we make progress. We promise we won't spam you with constant emails, but keep an eye out for more previews and art!

Expect initial surveys to go out in a couple weeks, once payment processing happens and we also figure out how to actually operate backerkit.

Thanks again for all your help!

48 Hours Remain! + Stretch Goal Reached! + Stretch Goal Announced! + Previews!
about 3 years ago – Sat, Feb 27, 2021 at 01:23:52 PM

Hello all!

How's that for a subject line?

Stretch Goal Reached

Before I launched, I was worried we wouldn't even fund, and now we've hit the second stretch goal! I can't thank you all enough for the support you've shown this project. Hitting $2500 means a 7th artifact will be added to the book, details to follow.

Musical Stretch Goal!

Now that we're in the final 48 stretch, I'm pleased to announce the final $4k stretch goal:

Commissioned music!

If we hit $4000 before the end of the project, we will commission some music to play at the table a to help set the mood for what exploring one of these megastructures would actually be like. I'm very excited about this, so I really hope we hit the goal.

And to reiterate an earlier promise, this is not a stretch goal that has any chance of delaying delivery on the rest of the project. We're commissioning the work so neither myself or Emanoel will be sinking time into it.

Previews!

As promised, I have a preview of THE ETERNAL MASTER spread, along with a preview of the spread for one of the "Keep" types for the artifact burial sites.

THE ETERNAL MASTERS (click to embiggen).
THE FORBIDDING BLOCKS (click to embiggen, although the "3d" rendering has messed up the page effects somewhat)

48 HOURS REMAIN

(47 hours by the time I finish writing this update)

That final $4k stretch goal seems like a long shot, but keep sharing the project and spreading the word and I'm hopeful we can hit it!

Thanks everyone!

Funding Milestone!

Thanks everyone for your incredible support, we've hit $2000 which means digital only printer friendly handouts for each artifact will be included with Not A Place Of Honor.

Media Stuff?

David was interviewed on the Morrus' Unofficial Tabletop RPG Talk podcast, so if you want to listen to an hour of him rambling incoherently about inspirations for NAPOH and other miscellany give it a listen!

Other Cool Projects

I realize most people have likely exhausted their ZineQuest budget by this point, but here are a few other projects that are either barely funded, or still trying to reach their goal.

The Vitacernis looks to have everything you'd want to kick off a wonderful Mausritter campaign. Friendly creatures, a bustling town full of fun NPCs, a strange mystery to solve, a dungeon crawl INSIDE A TREE, and a bestiary including SPOOKY SKELETON RATS! Worth noting that I (David) am friends with the author, but that also means I've seen the WIP and can confirm it is as good as it sounds.

The Journal of Fantastic Linguistics: Thieves cant as professional jargon, and extended to other classes? Alignment languages as fundamental parts of the universe? The impacts of different vocal organs between species? Guidance for how to do accents at the table? This Zine looks like a fascinating collection of essays, ideas, and tools and I am deeply looking forward to reading it.

The Occultural: As a person who browses and reads advertisements in scans of old books and newspapers, this is extremely my jam. That it looks to be fully "in character" is icing on the cake. I didn't know I needed a fantasy gossip rag in my life, but now that I know it's possible I absolutely need it.

Cryptid (Mis)Communication is exactly the sort of weird, off the wall, and totally unexpected thing that zines are perfect for. This one only has a few days to go and still needs some attention to get funded! If you want to pretend to be weird, blurry cryptids with your friends in a socially distanced RPG check this out.

The Million Islands of Doom: If you're already in for strange, apocalyptic objects in NAPOH why not a million islands doomed by various apocalypses? Interesting locals, space to explore, fun NPCs, and A BOAT!

Upcoming Preview

Keep an eye out for a preview of THE ETERNAL MASTER spread that we'll be releasing soon! As always, any way you can spread the word is greatly appreciated.

Stretch Goal Announcement!
about 3 years ago – Wed, Feb 17, 2021 at 09:32:16 AM

Hello all,

To follow up with yesterday's message, I wanted to share with everyone what our current plans for stretch goals are. Above all, we want to ensure that no stretch goal has a chance to scope creep the project or delay completion and fulfillment. So instead we're looking at additions that will enhance NAPOH without fundamentally changing its core.

We're only adding things that we're confident we can do within the original timeline we've laid out. There are a couple more ideas we might have (if we need them) but they won't be revealed until we're 100% sure they fall into the restrictions mentioned above.

All that being said, here's what you can look forward to if the project keeps growing!

  • $2000: Digital Only Player Handouts. The book itself is intended to be able to be player facing, but these would let GMs print out the various levels of information for each artifact to give them to players in stages, rather than all at once. Black and white and formatted to save ink.
  • $2500: A Seventh Artifact: Details to follow if we get this far.
  • $3000: An Eighth Artifact: Details to follow if we get this far.
  • $4000: ??????: A mystery, for now!

Thanks again for all your incredible support!

We did it! Funded in (about) 10 hours!
about 3 years ago – Mon, Feb 15, 2021 at 07:55:03 PM

We funded in just about 10 hours! Thanks to all of you for making this possible, I'm blown away by how much this weird idea seems to resonant with so many people! To celebrate, here's a sneak peak at the full list of six artifacts planned for Not a Place of Honor. Bonus points to anyone who can correctly identify the inspiration for all 6 based on name alone.

The references are mostly not obscure, but my names might not be very helpful.

I wasn't expecting anywhere near this level of success, so I hadn't planned any stretch goals. Adding one or two more artifacts should be doable without delaying things. Stickers of the "magical nuclear warning" symbol, or iron-on patches of the B.A.N.E. logo would be really cool if I can figure out how to make it work without turning shipping into even more of a nightmare than it already is (why yes, I am just stealing ideas from Gradient Descent). Physical stretch goals might have to be "add on" items, rather than just rolled into existing pledge levels, but it would depend on costs.

I do think these would make pretty killer stickers or badges.

I'd love to hear from you if any of these sound interesting, or if anyone has any other ideas for stretch goals.

I know it's cliche, but please keep sharing NAPOH on social media and with friends. I want to see how far we can take this project!
